Former Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry has filed a lawsuit against the Miss Universe Organisation following a serious fall during last year’s competition in Thailand.
Henry alleges she fell about five feet through an unmarked and uncovered opening in the stage while competing in the evening gown segment in Bangkok on November 19. She suffered a traumatic brain injury and other injuries and remained hospitalised until December 10.
The lawsuit claims the accident has affected Henry’s medical career and that she continues to experience neurological and cognitive symptoms requiring ongoing treatment and rehabilitation.
The Miss Universe Organisation has disputed aspects of her account, saying it had not yet been served with the lawsuit and maintaining that responsibility for the venue, stage and on-site safety rested with the local organisers in Thailand.
Henry returned to the Miss Universe Jamaica stage in August to crown her successor after spending much of the past year recovering.
